Over the past 20 years or more, Dale has designed and overseen the build of, over 50 concept and show cars, only to see the designs watered down to meet production cost and/or volume requirements, or to see the car never produced at all – usually for the same reasons.
Now, having ‘done it all’ and worked for and with the greatest names in automotive design and often in the role of ‘ghost writer’ where a design will be credited elsewhere for PR reasons; it’s time to both put his own name on a body of work – and crucially, to put concept cars out on to the open road.
Having owned and driven over 100 cars from Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Lotus, TVR, Jaguar, McLaren, Porsche and more, Dale is extremely clear about what makes a car work and not work, both from a design and an engineering standpoint. And amongst all these, one of the all-time favourites, that as he puts it, “I always come back to” is the Defender. He goes on: “I’ve built and bespoked several in my lifetime and probably spent the kind of money you could buy Grimsby for, and they’re still rubbish, but faster and more awesome in their rubbishness”. Thus began a project to “answer a question that no one’s ever asked” and Brabinger was born as the first car to be made under the Williamdale banner.
Dale’s unique talent comes from being not just a rare combination of artist and engineer, but also a driver who’s clocked 8.07 round the Nürburgring. Every Williamdale patron will feel the passion and energy that Dale brings to his work when they sit with him to create their own version of automotive perfection.
